Mary Schoenfeldt has worked in the field of Emergency Management/Crisis Response with a specialty in School Systems for over 20 years. Her background includes a combination of law enforcement, emergency management, education and disaster mental health. She currently is a member of the Washington State Office of Public Instruction School Safety Advisory Committee, is a Board member of Washington State Critical Incident Stress Management Network and holds a Board Presidency position with an International Disaster Mental Health Foundation.

For over 20 years, Mary has been providing training and consulting in emergency management, crisis response, violence prevention, worker safety programs, disaster recovery, substance abuse, suicide intervention and related topics. Her work in schools and communities has earned an international reputation as being a pioneer in school safety and crisis response programs. From preschool programs through K-12, public and private schools, and colleges and universities, Ms. Schoenfeldt has been called on to assist with providing a safe environment for all. Whether you are looking for help to assess a current crisis response system, write a crisis response plan, conduct a physical site safety audit, design a school specific training exercise or work with a system as you recover from a crisis event, Mary is there to guide you.

Mary is the author is several books on Crisis Response, has served as the subject matter expert for an acclaimed interactive software program called
Aftermath: School Edition, and has written numerous magazine articles for publications such as National School Safety Journal, Student Assistance Journal, and Pittsburgh Parent Magazine. She has contributed to publications and acted as Advisor to US Department of Education, Disaster International, State of California, State of Kentucky, State of Washington and has been interview by USA Today, the Good Morning America television show and various violence prevention, emergency management and school safety newsletters and publications. She is a sought after speaker, trainer and consultant.

Her materials and expertise have been used not only in the US but around the world in locations such as Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Israel, Switzerland, Nigeria and Mexico. Even though much of the material available today on school safety and crisis response is based on her early work she has not stopped there. She is on the cutting edge of current thought of school safety and is considered one of the experts in the development of practical implementation of the NIMS and Incident Command System for Schools. She also is the foremost expert in designing Full Scale Community Wide Drills specifically for School Settings with Critical Incident Stress Management built into the drill design to protect the students and staff from being traumatized by the training exercise. She was the 2008 recipient of the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Critical Incident Stress Management Foundation for her groundbreaking work in School Safety and just this fall was honored with an award from the International Association of Emergency Managers.

John Alvendia is President of REM4ed, LLC, the sole manufacturer of crisis planning software for the education industry. Alvendia is a co-founder of REM4ed, LLC.

Alvendia is focused on the development and growth of REM4ed, LLC as a world-class software company and crisis planning organization. REM4ed’s goal is to simplify the demands of emergency management and crisis planning for educators while simultaneously making the school environment safer for our children. Alvendia is focused on achieving national recognition.

Alvendia was born in the United States in 1964, and grew up all over the world, as his father was a diplomat for the Philippines. He graduated from the University of New Orleans with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. After college, he worked for Chevron USA as an engineer and project manager and then for AWC, Inc as the Louisiana Sales Division Manager for Siemens Industrial Automation until 1998. Alvendia then went on to co-invent a math software product and serve as executive vice-president charged with the growth of the company. It was this education environment, that Alvendia developed a passion and respect for the challenges faced by educators. Today, Alvendia works to reduce those challenges through the use of innovative technologies and leads the charge for REM4ed, LLC.

Jay Wehrer is Vice President of REM4ed, LLC, the sole manufacturer of crisis planning software for the education industry. Wehrer is a co-founder of REM4ed , LLC. Jay’s leadership and passion are hallmarks at the company.

Together with Alvendia and the company’s other business and technical contributors, Wehrer is focused on leading REM4ed’s innovations and simplifying the requirements of the National Incident Management System for the education world. REM4ed’s goal is to simplify the demands of emergency management and crisis planning for educators while simultaneously making the school environment safer for our children.

Wehrer was born in 1964, and grew up in the suburbs of New Orleans. A product of the Jefferson Parish Public School System, he graduated from the University of New Orleans with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. When in college, Wehrer held a full time job at the local Holiday Inn, financing his own college experience. It was in this environment that he met Alvendia and discovered that they shared the same interests and work ethic. After college, he worked in several engineering and sales positions until 1998 when he and Alvendia joined forces in the launch of a math software company. It was in this environment that Wehrer had opportunity to work with and understand the barriers that educators face daily while honing his technical and operational management skills in a growing company.

Today, he applies his unique blend of education and experience towards reducing the burden on educators and making schools safer for our children through innovative technology.
